Rude old ladies. Making rude comments. Even when you're donating stuff, taking time out of your day and they make rude comments to you as you're donating. Rude ungrateful old bags. Avoid going to this one, there's a few other salvos around the area.
The shop itself was fine, but there was a particular male staff member (white hair and glasses) working the till today who needs a small lesson in professionalism. He should know that I am not obligated to pay him in only the coins in my bag that he personally approves of, and if I am having a discussion with my husband while he's ringing in my items, he is not granted an automatic license to invade our conversation just so he can push his passive-aggressive misogyny agenda. I wasn't expecting a luxury over the top service, it's a Salvos after all, but a little common sense when providing basic customer service instead of "whatever the hell that was" would have been nice!
I had a previously poor experience with staff member complaining that I shouldn’t have gotten an item for $2 (was that colour tag sale say) stating usually they take the “designer” items off the floor during these days. Like it comes out of his own paycheck or something, you couldn’t sell it for the ridiculous price it was so surely better to move it along. Perhaps if you wern’t so overpriced to begin with in this store items would move quicker. Anyway, I decided not to leave a review at that time however I went in today and store absolutely reeks of cigarettes, it’s disgusting. It must blow in from where they sit to smoke out the back near the donation sorting area, I also purchased a “designer” item, aka the wooden not plastic coat hanger section, paid full price, and get home to find the sleeve has oil stains all over it. If you’re going to price so high at least check the items over.
Good op shop. Very large. Some half off specials for a certain colour of tags. I’m not sure that they had the $2 rack that other Salvos have? Standard prices for full price dresses and shirts but worth it if you find a couple of things half price as I did. Also new items to buy there including snacks and candles and the like.
I bought one of their *new* mattresses 3 months ago for $190 and paid the extra $50 to have it delivered. It is the absolute worst quality mattress, it's hard to see from the photos but there is a row of springs that poke up, there are parts that have caved in, and when sleeping on it, it has slowly sagged to the point that it is completely unusable. I have tried using a mattress topper, but it has not helped. I went in today to get a refund, and had an absolutely terrible experience. While the other two staff were very friendly, the manager was rude and aggressive from the start. She told me that I should have known it was a poor quality mattress when I bought it, it was my fault for buying it, and she said I should have expected this. When I mentioned it had sagged over time, hence why it has taken me 3 months since purchase, she said it wasn't her responsibility for "how I've used it", I think implying it was my fault for sleeping on it wrong? I understand it is a cheap mattress and didn't expect it to amazing, but at this stage it is unusable as a mattress. It is a mattress, as a bare minimum I should be able to sleep on it. I tried to explain to her my consumer rights (in the photo, from the ACCC website), which says if a new product has a major flaw, I am entitled to a refund. She was acting as thought the store policy supersedes the law, which says no returns after 7 days, end of story. For a brand new mattress, this is definitely not legal. The kicker is, I came home to find the mattress has a 12 month warranty. After unsuccessfully talking to the manager, she went to go talk to her supervisor, and made me wait 30 minutes. I'm not sure if it was just because she didn't want to deal with me, I ended up just going home and crying. This has just been a horrible experience, obviously don't recommend buying mattresses there.
