Are op shops open on Sundays in New Zealand?
Some are, and it varies shop by shop rather than by chain — plenty of charity shops close on Sunday, while stores inside shopping centres often stay open. Every shop page here shows that shop's own hours and whether it's open right now, so you can check before you drive.
What's the difference between an op shop and a secondhand shop?
An op shop is run by a charity, so the money goes to the cause behind it. A secondhand shop, vintage boutique or antique dealer is a business buying and selling for profit. Both are worth a look, but they aren't the same thing. The counts on this page are op shops only; open any place below and you can switch the secondhand dealers on.
Can I donate to any op shop?
Most take clothing, books and homeware in good condition during opening hours. Furniture, electrical goods and large items depend on the shop's space and whether they can test them, so ring first for anything bulky — a shop that can't take it will usually know who can.
Are the opening hours here right?
They come from each shop's own listing and are refreshed regularly, but a volunteer-run shop can close at short notice. Treat them as a strong guide rather than a guarantee, and if you find one wrong, say so on the shop's page so the next person doesn't make the trip.
