About this shop

Takanini's vintage stop — two shops in one, with sized clothing racks on one side and the typewriters, vases and mugs they're known for on the other. Reviewers rate the styling and displays; pricing draws the odd grumble. With SPCA opposite and Tōtara Hospice down the road, it anchors an easy three-shop circuit.

Two stores in one: clothes on one side, organised by size, and kitchenware, vintage and kids' stuff on the other. The vintage is the calling card — vases, books, typewriters, mugs — extensive, and often sitting in the window so you can scout from the street. There's a wall of CDs for the rummagers, and a notable amount of good-quality kids' clothing and toys.

Open seven days and reasonably priced. It anchors a fast, walkable Takanini circuit — SPCA directly opposite and Tōtara Hospice down the road, all within 200m. One quirk: they're selective about clothing donations, so phone ahead before bringing bags in.

To the blonde unfriendly manager — you’re so rude to the customers and the other staff! Come down from your high horse, lady, and put a smile on your face. Your arrogant attitude reflects badly on both the shop and the New Zealand Red Cross cause. If you don’t feel like working, then stay home.

BEAUTIFUL STAFF FIRST AND FOREMOST half of my closet has been curated at this specific thrift, the work is put in to make sure no rubbish is on the shelves and that effort shows. Keep up the effort team! Thank you for what you do harassment towards anyone over such pitiful things like prices is not okay. REMEMBER to be kind. No one has it easy right now :)

A nice laid out op shop, prices were reasonable. Also loved how these cups were displayed.

Disappointed with some of the pricing, there were kids toys missing pieces and paint faded on the wooden toys still asking around $15. And some of the ladies clothes seemed way over priced for Kmart and warehouse brands not even designer. Confusing prices on the kids books as nothing was ticketed and she decided the price when we got to the till, and the book even had a torn page and charged me $8, by this stage I just wanted to pay and get out. I felt like the signage was confusing on the shop front mentioned 1/2 price, but at the till we soon found out it only applied to certain things… (really need better signage if the sale only applies to kids clothes and not the toys). Staff seemed bothered that I questioned the sale pricing , and lady at the till looked very impatient and unimpressed.

Beautiful op shop! So much thought has been put into staging rooms/ areas. The styling is impeccable. There is a decent range but the prices are veering into 'designer-op shop' territory; which is fairly expected for a boutique-style store.
