I visited Salvos yesterday, intending to shop for a family member, as I often do. Unfortunately, what I witnessed was appalling and entirely out of step with the kindness and dignity a community charity shop should represent. A young customer appeared to have made a mistake regarding an item (which was not theft at all) yet instead of handling the matter discreetly and respectfully, a staff member I later learned was named Crystal seemed almost eager for an opportunity to publicly shame and humiliate her. The customer’s basket was taken from her hands, she was spoken to harshly in front of the entire store, and even as she attempted to leave and politely asked not to be yelled at, the staff member continued raising her voice. It did not come across as professional conduct or simple policy enforcement it felt like bullying. There was no compassion, no discretion, and no effort from other staff to de-escalate or preserve the customer’s dignity. She could have been offered forgiveness for this instance, and worst case scenario could have been asked to leave the basket on the counter, could have been communicated with more privacy but she was humiliated publicly. It was hard to watch. The experience left such a poor impression that I chose not to buy anything and will not return or donate to this store again. Charity shops exist because of community generosity, and customers should be treated with grace, especially when mistakes are made. I sincerely hope management reflects on whether this behaviour aligns with the values the Salvos claim to uphold.

Punishment for DecadenceJune 2026

Most expensive Salvos I've ever seen with virtually everything being almost disgustingly overpriced. And while other Salvation Army stores give away secondhand bibles at no cost, bibles here are sold at a premium. I'm assuming they are like this cos it's a rich suburb so they think everyone has loaded pockets

I’ve recently visited Salvos Frewille, and I’m leaving a review because I have now had two consecutive bad experiences with two different staff members. The first time was with Crystal, I witnessed her being so rude to a customer who clearly had a disability. I tried to help the customer as she didn’t, and later could still hear her from the other side of the store. I asked her later about an item. She is rude and abrupt. The second bad experience was with Henry, who kept invading my personal space and made me feel uncomfortable. He kept following me around the store and it felt inappropriate. I ended up buying a book, which was priced $5, and he told me that someone must’ve changed the price as this book’s price was $8. The original price of the book was $19!

Gobsmacked at them trying to charge $45 for a good brand shirt. As other reviews have mentioned, this is supposed to be an alternative for people to get affordable clothing but it seems to only want to appeal to people who want to resell. Not for those who actually need it.

Used to go here all the time when it opened and loved it, would always come home with some great pieces. I went today and was shocked by how much the prices had increased, most everyday brands were $25-$30, despite a lot having wear and tear. A Dotti dress had its original price tag of $29 still on and Salvos had also priced it at $29?!
