Had a disappointing experience trying to donate clothes here. Had multiple bags of clothes and books ready to donate, including 2 bags of branded clothes in great condition. Got turned away by the worker who said the clothes were dirty, this was untrue. Some of the bags were a little bit dusty due to being in a garage but the clothes inside were clean. I understand op shops need to maintain a certain standard but I also believe this can be communicated in a kind way. I felt dismissed after my interaction with the worker. It’s a pity as I used to volunteer at Sacred Heart Mission’s aged care facility and have been a big supporter of their work.
Very disappointed with the response I received today trying to donate. I initially went inside to ask whether they were taking donations and I was informed yes. When I went to the lady at the back of the store I showed her the bedsheet I had and she said “no we can’t take them, they need to be in good quality ironed and washed”. The bedsheet were in washed but not ironed. She then proceeded to tell me to try elsewhere. I also had women’s clothes, pot plants and bags to donate. I went to different op shop who were move than happy to take the donations.
Great to see Sacred Heart Bentleigh has had a refresh, as have their base prices! Saying that, SH only stock quality clothing at this store - no $1 bargain bin like the Hawthorn store. The central homewares section has been relocated to successfully open up the shop. The book section organised by genre seems to have reduced to make way for a new kids section. There are always loads of interesting stuff here. Donating can be hit and miss. However, what does get accepted visibly supports homelessness in the St Kilda region.
I've been to a lot of Op Shops and I thought this one was just so-so. Yes it has heaps of stuff (books, kids and adult clothing, toys, shoes, bags, bric a brac, kitchenware etc) but not presented as well as it could be, bit too junky for my liking and there was also some weird smell so don't know what that was if a staff member had cooked something? So yes go and check it out and I actually brought 2 vintage mags, some books and a cardi and husband brought a keyboard.
