Good Sammy Butler Op Shop

My 6 year old son, 8 year old niece and I took about 7-8 large garbage bags full of their near-new children's clothing and costly, clean, barely-used toys to donate to Good Sammy in Butler today. The kids were super excited to be donating their beloved possessions to charity and the thought of the children who could potentially receive these goods filled their hearts with joy... But the reception we received from the staff upon our arrival left much to be desired. Not only did the staff not greet us, when I advised the staff of what we had to donate they looked annoyed and pointed us toward a large grey container. They watched as the children and I carried each bag out of the car and put them into said grey container, without offering to help at all. Once we were done emptying the car; they went about conversing amongst themselves with no acknowledgement and not even a "thank you" to the kids. Once we were back in our car, my 6 year old son said "Mum, I hope the workers will be nicer to the kids who need our clothes and toys than they were to us. They don't like us. It makes me sad because I just want to share my things with other kids who don't have anything." Trying to teach our kids the importance of generosity and charity is a beautiful thing... but people who choose to volunteer or work for these charities need to really consider how they treat people who go out of their way to donate their belongings to said charities and organisations. We're in a global cost of living crisis, most of what a lot of us donate could be sold to make a profit for ourselves and ease some of our own cost of living expenses but we choose to be charitable and to teach our children to do so too. It's a shame the staff lack common sense, empathy and basic communication skills. A little "thank you" or an appreciative smile goes a long way. Based on many other reviews of this store, it seems children aren't very welcomed or well received here to begin with. Therefore, we will not be donating anything to Good Sammy in Butler going forward. Do better!

Nothing is sorted by size, not even a plus size section so every size all mixed in together, great selection of shoes though.

omg ! went in today , was greeted by a lovely lady with a blonde bob and glasses welcoming us into the store and saying looking good - mood booster! she’s made my day! interacted with customers and made me feel very welcome - very funny telling the coworkers to put the songs back on and get the party started - complimenting customers ! loved it! will be back again and hope she’s there 🤞🤞 deals are good too! highly recommend

Went there for the first time today and encountered a staff who clearly does not like children. We were in the toy area with our son. A little boy was by himself on the floor playing with the toys. Along came this staff member and started saying very loudly that all toys must be put back on the shelf. She then continued to grumble as she picked up a few toys. Some of the things she uttered were inappropriate for children to hear, one of which was along the lines of "I hate children's mess." It was loud enough for everyone to hear and the little boy ran off after that leaving the toys behind. She also stormed off still grumbling. We were shocked at her behaviour! We also understand that kids leave messes especially when unsupervised but to utter such words for young children to hear, that was incredibly unprofessional and inappropriate, volunteer or paid employee. No one needed to hear how much she disliked children nor did she have to put all kids in the same basket. I would have gladly helped the lone kid pick up the toys if he had left them. It's not difficult. On the bright side, the two ladies at the checkout were lovely and treated our little boy like a person when he put his chosen toy on counter to pay. Please don't let her near any children again!
