Op Spot keeps the most current list of op shops, charity stores and reuse centres in New Zealand and Australia — 5,531 places, checked and re-checked as shops open, move and close. If you run a council waste page, a community directory, or research on reuse, take it. It’s yours to use, free, with attribution.

New Zealand and Australia are ranked separately because their city definitions and Census years differ. These are descriptive catalogue results, not tests of statistical significance. Catalogue completeness may vary by place, and each shop counts equally regardless of size or opening hours, so this measures listed outlets rather than access, quality, affordability, capacity or stock.

- Street-level location. City is blank on some Australian rows — suburb, state and postcode locate them.

- Administrative area — NZ regional council area or AU state. Blank on a small number of rows. Not the same as Op Spot's region pages.
- shop_type
- op_shop, second_hand, consignment, market, reuse_centre, vintage_clothing, second_hand_books, or antique_furniture.
- organisation
- The charity or chain the shop belongs to, where we've linked one (Salvation Army, Vinnies, hospice shops…).
- opspot_url
- The shop's live page on opspot.me — hours, photos and updates live there.
- snapshot_date
- The day this file was generated. Please show it wherever you use the data.
What we hold back, and why
Not in the files
- Opening hours, phone numbers and websites. We refresh these from Google, whose terms don’t let us pass them on. Every row links to the shop’s live Op Spot page, where they’re always current.
- Map coordinates. Coming in a later release, once we’ve re-anchored every address to open government address data. Street address and postcode locate every shop in the meantime.
Good to know
- Reuse and recovery centres are included where we’ve catalogued them, but our coverage of tip shops and community recycling centres is still growing.
- Snapshots age. Shops close and move all the time — that’s why each file carries its date. Re-download now and then, or link straight to opspot.me pages, which never go stale.

New Zealand search uses LINZ NZ Suburbs and Localities, sourced October 2026. Australia search uses Geoscape Administrative Boundaries, August 2026.
