Recycle Boutique is genuinely a very convenient option if you’re looking to move clothes quickly, and overall I am appreciative that stores like this exist. I also believe many of the staff are doing their best within a system that can sometimes feel a little difficult to navigate. That said, I do think there is room for improvement, particularly around communication and the handling of expired stock. During my time selling here, I experienced a few issues with payments not coming through, and although I contacted staff for clarification, I never really received a clear explanation. I also later discovered several of my own expired/rejected items sitting in a local opshop. I completely understand that consignment stores often place responsibility on sellers to track expiry dates themselves, however if there is no official policy around directly contacting sellers regarding expired stock, then the website and tracking system really need to be more accessible, reliable, and easier to use. Not confusing, glitchy, and difficult to properly keep track of items. As sellers, we are already trusting stores with personal belongings while accepting there may not be guaranteed compensation if items are misplaced, damaged, or stolen, so clear communication and user-friendly systems become especially important. I want to keep this review fair and balanced because I truly do appreciate the purpose of this store and have still had positive experiences here over the years. However, appreciation should still leave room for constructive criticism and improvement, and I think clearer communication and better systems would make a huge difference for both customers and staff alike.
I've never been to recycle boutique Dunedin before, I use Queenstown regularly. For my latest drop off nearly 4 weeks ago I booked online for the Dunedin store specifically, traveled 3 hrs from my home town and arrived to find the store closed during listed opening hours and a hand written note on the door saying 'not accepting drop offs this week'. That info would have been great updated online or emailed to those with a drop off booked for the Dunedin store.
Really nice store! Great selection of clothes and really lovely workers. However, had a very negative experience in the store today (4th of Feb) when a customer in the store being very disrespectful to the lovely young girl who was working, straight up screaming at her about I don't even know what (anything she could think of, from the sounds of it). However, the worker dealt with the experience very professionally, remaining calm and polite even when this woman was being genuinely disgusting towards her. I was very impressed with how she handled the situation. However, I was shocked that no manager stepped in to help this poor girl, as this was an ongoing situation.
