Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre is a community recycling hub where you can donate or recycle unwanted items across almost every household category. It also has an op shop selling cheap clothes, books, household goods and other second-hand items. The location is quite convenient, it’s just next to Auckland Zoo bus stop. I’m glad there’s a recycling center that almost takes anything near CBD. As someone who lives alone and doesn’t own a car, throwing away inorganic rubbish is always a problem troubling me at my subconscious level. I think it’s definitely a problem for anyone else who’s like me, living alone and not owning a car, which there are a lot of us, it’s a lifestyle. Luckily I have a friend who owns a car. So I can ask her to help me if she has time. But I can’t rely on her all the time. At least I need an option that I could throw away big garbage myself as someone who lives alone and doesn’t own a car. I got myself an IKEA trolley. Anyway I’m glad this recycling center is just next to a bus station.
Really cool antique goods here and always really well displayed and organised. The clothing is well curated although some of it is a little more expensive than I would pay at a second hand store. I assume the less quality brands or damaged/worn items are sold in the 'fill a bag' sales that is hosted in the place above this store every month, or every few months.
Discovered this place by accident while walking past. A recycling centre where you have opportunity to recycle products properly and learn more about sustainability. The centre is staffed by 50% volunteers, 50% paid staff. There is also an Op Shop there which seems quite interesting.
Such a great initiative but yeah, management.. especially the lady often there to handle donations has a very unfriendly demeanour, not just once but every time I’ve donated things (actually nice stuff i know would have generated a lot of $$) she is on the brink of accusatory/very inconvenienced…. Like what??? Wrong person for the role, she lets the whole place down!
I just have to say, the Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre is a gem! They've got so many cool things, and the prices are cheap. You can really find some great stuff here. Plus, the staff are so nice and friendly. They're always ready to help you out. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!
