A really cool community initiative that helps give clothes a second home. Nothing is over $20, so for financial conscious shopper or bargain hunter you will definitely find something. Recommend checking out, who knows you might find something for yourself?
Love the vibe of people volunteering here and people that gather looking to practice a more ethical & sustainable lifestyle one day at a time - whether it be cloth swapping @RE place, learning sewing skills, permaculture, learning about bees, bike upcycling @Bower (instead of throwing old bikes that can still be used at landfill), donating clothes for those who are entering corporate @DressforSuccess! There's something for everyone's interest! 😊♻️🌿
I absolutely adore RePlace! It is such a treasure trove of secondhand clothing! I love that I can bring in my old clothes on Wednesdays and be confident none of them end up in landfill. Their recycling fees are really reasonable as well! I love browsing their huge selection. What a fantastic place for the community to come swap up clothing, shoes, and even some really special vintage pieces! Nothing is over $20 so I know I can always afford to leave with my own little treasure. They also host workshops and events with an emphasis on sustainability and mending and they are SO FUN and informative. I cannot recommend this place enough- it’s so cool and joyful. (it’s also run by some of the most incredible and lovely women I’ve met!)
It’s hard to put into words just how fabulous this social enterprise is! Firstly, they don’t just accept any old rubbish - everything is carefully sorted at point of donation and only items that are in great condition and fit for resale will be accepted. If you have items that aren’t fit for resale, you have the option to pay a small fee to get them recycled. Re-Place operates sustainably to address the problems of fast fashion and textile waste - nothing goes to landfill. Furthermore, if you DO pay to recycle your worn out items, they give you a voucher for the equivalent amount to spend in their store. Which brings me to the second reason they’re so wonderful! They offer a huge range of carefully curated secondhand clothing at ridiculously affordable prices - $5 to $20 - or you can stuff a bag full of used clothes for $35! They also offer less than perfect items FOR FREE, provide space for local upcyclers and refashionistas to showcase and sell their wares, and run workshops on mending, repair and reuse. It’s hard to fault their operating model! Top finds to date - a pair of Converse high tops for $5 and a Country Road Liberty of London shirt in the free pile because it had a faded collar (easily fixed with a strip of bias tape!)
Remember when op shopping for clothes was affordable? Remember when you could not just satisfy your desire to shop ethically and sustainably by buying second hand, but also get a great pre-loved bargain in the process? It seems that increasingly those days are over with many "charity" op shops charging exorbitantly high prices for "higher end" or retro and vintage fashion items. 'Only the rich are allowed to look good' seems to be the new ethos of some Sydney op shops, many of whom previously operated specifically to provide a service to those in need. The result? Now those who NEED to shop second hand, i.e the poor, are once again classed as second class citizens as they are pushed aside in favour of those who merely WANT to shop second hand because it is now "on trend". Re Place has bucked this trend by offering affordable - nothing over $20! - second hand clothes, reclaimed textiles, recycling, repairs and repurposed items for sale all under one roof. By shopping here - or donating items - not only are you diverting clothing from landfill, but you are also assisting people with the cost of living by providing high quality clothing at affordable prices. Hands down the best place to op shop for clothes in Sydney!
