This little gem is the place for vintage sewing patterns, random lengths of interesting fabrics, sewing notions (love that term), wool and knitting patterns and needles, and second hand sewing machines. It’s my go to place when I need threads, zips or interesting buttons. It’s a social enterprise initiative, all goods are donated and staff are friendly and helpful. Patterns are in great condition and it’s noted if there are any missing pieces. They gave a great range of vintage buttons and some beautiful Japanese fabrics. Credit cards are preferred.
Wonderful place to pop into to buy all those things you need to craft knit or sew. It’s like grannies sewing cupboard. Always what you want somewhere - even what u didn’t know you wanted. All profits for a great cause. Lovely helpful staff.
What an amazing shop. The staff are super friendly and passionate. After reading a previous “complaint” about pricing and the machines in the window not being for sale and being “hoarded”, I can debunk that theory. The sign in the window clearly states the machines are for sale, I got some amazing bargains and couldn’t have been happier. In fact, the prices were so cheap I disagreed and gave a donation as well! I live 7 hours away so I’m sad I can’t visit but I may be back.
The Sewing Basket at Balmain has something for everyone. Lots of little nooks and crannies filled with amazing finds for the sewing room or craft studio. Pauline and her crew are really knowledgeable regarding their stock, and so willing to assist with suggestions and practical advice when needed. I've made both these bags and the cushion from fabrics, buttons and braid I've picked up for a fraction of the price you'd pay elsewhere. Always a fun shopping experience.
First visit today- what a fantastic find! Absolute gem :) Pauline was utterly delightful and has such a wonderful array of products. She was very helpful and patient with my two little children in the shop. We already can’t wait to come back! She had lots to wonderful ideas for how to entertain two small children in 128sqm during isolation. Very grateful indeed! Definitely go and take a look. It is like stepping back in time to my childhood, in ALL the BEST ways. Carefully chosen things, attention to detail, helpful service, and quality things. So happy we can support this local business going forward! Pauline suggested a little simple embroidery for my 3yr old and we collected a number of other little craft activities- including quilt squares, lots of choice of designs- see pics attached. She even had a vintage Nestle tin, which we used to make my daughter’s special little sewing box. Fantastic!
