Hospice Waikato's Lake Road Megastore is exactly that — a proper mega-store, about the size of two tennis courts, laid out over two floors with plenty of parking down the side. They sell online too.
The good stuff is curated to the front and the top. Upstairs holds furniture with some genuinely high-quality pieces, alongside a designer-and-retro corner that's lovely but priced closer to boutique retail than op-shop bargain. The lower-grade stock gets pushed to the back downstairs, so the bar dips the further in you go.
Come knowing what you're after. If you want a true bargain bin this isn't it, but for quality secondhand — a good piece of furniture, a designer find — it's one of the region's best-stocked stops.
