An amazing group of volunteers who do mean so much to the homeless and people on low incomes. A true blessing to our community
Google says that that they shut at 1:30 p.m., but the closing time is actually 1:00 p.m on the door. My partner I arrived at 1:20 p.m. ready to grab a food hamper, just to be told that they weren't open. Although we'd come all this way and we are in need of food relief, we were still declines and it's just frustrating that people work for a charity store and still can't use their initiative. So you'd rather send someone away with no food rather than help them out just because they're 20 minutes late, although the opening time on Google says differently. It's just really disappointing that this is the way society is. We don't regard each other for humans anymore.
I have lately wandered into a quaint emporium, adorned with sundry curios, furnishings, tomes, and those modern moving-picture discs. To the gentleman collector or casual browser, it offers a charming prospect for idle perusal. Yet, one is swiftly disabused by the outrageous prices, which stand as a grievous affront to all sense and propriety. The wares, though second-hand, are priced nigh on par with pristine goods found in finer establishments. Most vexing is the uniform two-shilling rate for every disc, heedless of age or merit, rendering a full series’ cost—thirty to forty shillings—utterly exorbitant. The books, too, bear ambitious prices despite their dusty neglect. Though the shop holds a certain charm, its proprietors’ gross misjudgement of value demands urgent correction.
I’ve volunteered for them when I was 13, I loved Joan so much. She is like a second mum. She taught me so much, I’m so glad that she supported me through getting a full time job, and helping me get the knowledge that I needed to proceed in life.
For the last 5 years the haven has helped me out so much, they really do change lives there. Joan and Gordon are great members of the community and feed so many peeps in need, not to mention the beautiful furniture I’ve received. Big shout out to all the work they do and the volunteers!
