The three stars are because of other reviews, really. Obviously this place helped a LOT of needy people and served as a community centre of sorts, also helping people fulfil their work for the dole commitments etc by working around the warehouse and behind the cash registers. I've been a few times over the years as it's very close to the Blunder Rd complex where I go a lot. I always found it a bit dark and depressing and the landscaping/ concreting around the car park area very poor. The prices of the 'new' items seemed dearer than Woolies/Aldi. Charging (quite decent amounts) for food they'd been given for free from Ozharvest/ Second Bite seemed weird. It's a project of Citipointe West church and I was once asked a couple of years ago when going through the checkouts after making a couple of purchases if I'd like a ticket for a Christmas hamper (to be picked up at a later date). I said yes and then was handed an iPad tablet on which I was expected to enter all of my personal details. I felt a bit uncomfortable to be honest, being required to give so much personal information. Then, on the day of the pickup you had to go around to the church, get in line and show your ID! It was mostly very practical tinned/long life food. Very little festive food. Some people had lined up who weren't on the list and were distressed and begging. I avoided looking at them to see the outcome, but it didn't seem to match the spirit of Christmas. I know in the pentecostal churches there is a lot of control over members and I think they've normalized this to how they treat everyone. This place really wasn't for me ultimately. Hearing the place had burned down made me feel sad nonetheless as some people it obviously suited and the tragic loss of a life made it terrible to reflect on. It always made me feel uncomfortable and I blame the religious influences.

Great community shop. Some grocery prices quite low, others are just under the major's prices. Op shop worth a look too. Easy parking. I go about once a week. 👍
